A bit about me
Hello, I am Duane Fitzsimons, regional tour guide for Lecale. Welcome to my website for my tours in the heart of County Down. This is the Home of Saint Patrick and it has been home to my family for centuries.
Telling the story of our heritage has been one of my life's passions. These walking tours began as a heritage blog. When an opportunity to become a tour guide came up I seized it with both hands. On 7 August 2015 I led my inaugural tour in Strangford and Portaferry.
In 2016 I wrote my first book - Under the shade of Our Lady's sweet image. In doing this I unearthed the true legacy of John de Courcy in Lecale by piecing together the story of religion in the area.
For each of my tours I bring my own collection of artefacts. These are from the family archive which is 250 years old! They help to provide you with the most tangible experience while exploring our heritage.
In addition to the tours I work as a heritage consultant, as well as roles with the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs and Belfast City Council promoting a wide range of outdoor activities.
